Florida Authorities Arrest 10 in Bitcoin Theft Ring
Miami, FL – Ten individuals were arrested in Florida yesterday in connection with a major bitcoin theft ring that has defrauded victims of millions of dollars.
According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the ring operated a sophisticated scheme that targeted victims through social media and online advertising campaigns. The suspects allegedly promised high returns on bitcoin investments but instead stole victims’ funds.
“This was a complex and well-organized operation that preyed on unsuspecting victims,” said FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen. “We are working diligently to recover stolen funds and bring these criminals to justice.”
The investigation, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies, began earlier this year after reports of fraudulent bitcoin transactions. Investigators identified the suspects as members of a criminal organization based in South Florida.
During the arrests, authorities seized approximately $1 million worth of bitcoin, as well as computers and other electronic devices used in the scheme. The suspects have been charged with various crimes, including grand theft, fraud, and money laundering.
The FDLE is urging the public to be cautious when investing in cryptocurrencies and to only deal with reputable companies. Victims who believe they have been defrauded should contact their local law enforcement agency or the FDLE at 1-800-342-0433.
