Major Bitcoin Attack Hits 2008 Honda

Bitcoin and 2008 Honda: A Surprising Connection

Bitcoin, the decentralized digital currency, has been gaining significant attention in recent years. However, a lesser-known connection between Bitcoin and the automotive industry has recently emerged.

In 2008, the Honda Motor Company introduced a limited-edition version of its popular Civic hatchback called the FCX Clarity. This vehicle was significant because it was the first hydrogen fuel cell-powered car to be mass-produced.

Curiously, the FCX Clarity was also the subject of one of the earliest Bitcoin transactions. On May 22, 2010, a user on the BitcoinTalk forum named “New Liberty Standard” offered to sell a used FCX Clarity for 5,000 bitcoins.

At the time, the value of Bitcoin was approximately $0.008 per coin, making the total purchase price around $40. Today, that same amount of Bitcoin would be worth over $300 million.

While the transaction itself was not particularly noteworthy, it does highlight the early adoption of Bitcoin for unconventional purchases. It also demonstrates the potential for Bitcoin to appreciate in value over time.

Interestingly, the 2008 Honda FCX Clarity remains a relatively rare vehicle today. According to Honda, only around 200 units were produced worldwide. As a result, the value of used FCX Clarity models has remained relatively high, particularly among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the vehicle’s historical significance.
