Zcash Creator Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn Discusses Bitcoin’s Future
Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn, the creator of the privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash, recently spoke about his thoughts on Bitcoin’s future in an interview with Bitcoin News.
Wilcox-O’Hearn said that he believes Bitcoin “will continue to be a major force in the world” and that it has the potential to “change the way we think about money.” However, he also noted that Bitcoin faces some challenges, including its lack of scalability and privacy.
“Bitcoin is not scalable to the level that we need it to be for it to become a global currency,” Wilcox-O’Hearn said. “And it’s not private, which is a problem for a lot of people.”
Wilcox-O’Hearn suggested that Bitcoin could overcome these challenges through the development of off-chain solutions and privacy-enhancing technologies. He also said that he believes Bitcoin will eventually become a “stable store of value” and that it will be used for “big-ticket transactions.”
“I think Bitcoin will become more like gold,” Wilcox-O’Hearn said. “It will be a safe haven asset that people will hold as a store of value.”
Wilcox-O’Hearn’s comments come as Bitcoin is facing increased scrutiny from regulators around the world. In November, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Ripple Labs, the company behind the XRP cryptocurrency. The SEC alleged that Ripple Labs sold XRP as an unregistered security.
The lawsuit has raised concerns about the regulatory status of other cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin. However, Wilcox-O’Hearn said that he does not believe that Bitcoin is a security.
“Bitcoin is a decentralized network,” Wilcox-O’Hearn said. “It’s not controlled by any one company or entity.”
Wilcox-O’Hearn said that he believes that Bitcoin will continue to grow and develop in the coming years. He also said that he is “optimistic” about the future of Bitcoin.
“I think Bitcoin has the potential to change the world,” Wilcox-O’Hearn said. “It’s a powerful tool, and I’m excited to see what happens next.”
