Kamala Harris Says She’s ‘Not a Fan’ of Bitcoin
Vice President Kamala Harris said she’s “not a fan” of Bitcoin during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday.
“I think there are a lot of concerns about the instability and the speculative nature of cryptocurrencies,” Harris said. “I think we need to be very careful about how we approach them.”
Harris’s comments come as the price of Bitcoin has been on a rollercoaster ride in recent months. The cryptocurrency hit an all-time high of nearly $65,000 in April, but has since fallen by more than half.
Some experts have warned that Bitcoin is a bubble that could burst at any time. Others have argued that Bitcoin is a legitimate investment that could revolutionize the way we think about money.
The Biden administration has not yet taken a clear stance on cryptocurrencies. In May, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that she was “very concerned” about the risks posed by cryptocurrencies. However, Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler has said that he believes cryptocurrencies have the potential to be a “catalyst for change” in the financial system.
It remains to be seen how the Biden administration will ultimately regulate cryptocurrencies. However, Harris’s comments suggest that the administration is likely to take a cautious approach.
