Rajasthan Police Arrests 18 in Connection with Bitcoin Scam
Jaipur, Rajasthan – Police in the Indian state of Rajasthan have arrested 18 people in connection with a Bitcoin scam that defrauded investors of over Rs 200 crore (approximately $26 million).
The arrests were made after a raid conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG) on multiple locations in Jaipur and other cities in the state. The accused are alleged to have operated a pyramid scheme under the guise of a cryptocurrency investment platform.
According to police, the scam involved luring investors with promises of high returns on their Bitcoin investments. Investors were asked to purchase Bitcoin at inflated prices and then refer others to the platform in order to earn commissions. However, once the pyramid scheme reached a saturation point, the operators allegedly disappeared with the investors’ funds.
The investigation into the scam began after several complaints were filed by victims who lost substantial amounts of money. Police officials traced the suspects’ online activities and identified their locations.
During the raid, police seized laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices from the possession of the accused. Investigators are currently examining the seized evidence to gather further details about the scam and identify other individuals involved.
The arrested individuals have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating, criminal conspiracy, and money laundering. They have been remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
Police officials have cautioned the public against investing in unregulated cryptocurrency schemes and advised investors to only deal with reputable platforms and exchanges.
The arrests in the Rajasthan Bitcoin scam serve as a reminder of the need for increased regulation and oversight in the cryptocurrency industry. Investors are urged to exercise due diligence before investing in any cryptocurrency-related scheme.
